The BlogCatalog.com scam… Like a lot of Blogger’s we use a lot of Blog listing services or "top lists" to get some traffic to their site. I have tried many of them, and for the most part it’s just minor traffic. Which is ok because …hey there free. I noticed all of them list hits in and out except BlogCatalog.com… BUT the have a real high end site. and list there traffic as 1.3 million visitors. WOW. So I thought 1.3 Mil !!!! I decided to get a sponsored listing from them. $15 per month . Hmmm after a week NOT ONE SINGLE HIT! so maybe it’s not working. So I clicked it myself, and it worked. So now I have 1 hit from them and it was from me. So I paid $15 for my only visit and it was me who visited?
BELOW: Image 1 proof of my paid listing. Image 2 Their false sales page(just read it) Image 3 The one hit I got for $15 that was my test click !!! STAY AWAY FROM BLOGCATALOG.COM!!!

Geez that is not right at all. I have a sponsor listing on Bloggingfusion.com and have received 181 visits.
Admin:Maybe I should give them a try.

I saw this on Sphinn
Different traffic metrics systems calculate unique visitors in different ways.
Comepete is meant to measure only US uniques, and I know Blogcatalog has a lot of international users.
Here is an example of Compete traffic estimates from July
http://siteanalytics.compete.com/blogcatalog.com+ns4w.org+andybeard.eu?metric=uv
I would class my stats as being slightly inaccurate, because my site has a disproportionate number of Compete users, though they do use other traffic sources to balance things out.
Then again something like AWStats reports much more.
I notice one thing you didn’t include was an RSS feed for your site.
That does affect the value of your landing page, and the number of pages on the site where your site will appear.
I suppose another factor is how much value you place on gaining readers who are blogging within your niche, as one such link partner could easily be worth a year’s advertising.
Then there is the link value, a higher listing means you ultimately get a little more juice though it only affects categories and not tags.
I wouldn’t say it is a scam, but at the same time a listing for many people isn’t good value and they might be better off looking at alternative ways to generate traffic.
Disclosure:- I do some consulting with Blogcatalog, and as compensation I opted for a very minority stake should they ever flip the site.
I have gone through the evaluation process myself and determined it wasn’t worthwhile for me to purchase a listing, as I already ranked high enough in the categories I chose for whatever link value I might gain.
I do subscribe for their supporter package, there is no way to really measure the benefit, and I don’t get that as a freebie.

Andy here receives financial compensation from Blogcatalog. I don’t think he is about to say anything negative about them.
Admin: Thanks for your support Rose

Rose all I quoted were facts, I included a specific disclosure which is rare for someone commenting, and I also mentioned that I personally decided not to purchase category listings – I would look on that as at least neutral, but many people could take that as a negative.
I also gave some good advise on how to improve performance and get better value
Now do you have something to disclose about why you might say something negative about Blogcatalog every chance you get?
I certainly don’t have Google alerts setup to jump on every story about Blogcatalog that gets written, I saw this story by chance on Sphinn where you happened to submit it.
ADMIN: You did disclose that.
I just think with that much “traffic” it’s impossible not to get traffic. Unless they only get traffic from their link back which they require, and it doesen’t seem be quality Traffic. They clearly implied they would increase traffic…BUT 0 Traffic? ZERO!!!
ps. the only gave me 8 days not a full month canceled the day after I posted this…

Andy, I don’t have Google alerts set up either if you were implying that I do. I commented on this because I don’t think it is right. I also submitted it to sphinn because for someone to pay for something and not get what is paid for is wrong. I also find it funny that you show up every time something negative is said about BlogCatalog. Do you have Google Alerts set?
